A Place for Me Founder,
Elaine Reeves-Haywood
Elaine has had a passion for helping her son since his birth. She has worked tirelessly to provide him with the very best experiences she can, helping him grow and develop to his great potential. In 2002 Elaine became discouraged when she was not able to find appropraite childcare and social actvities for her son, who is diagnosed with autism. Instead of remaining discouraged, Elaine jumped into action, creating A Place For Me to provide not only her son, but others as well, with a place they could truly call their own, a place that is safe and fun and helps each child be all they can be. Because she is so passionate about helping others, she continues to donate her time and energy to growing A Place For Me to it's fullest, and helping families and children know they are loved and that they belong. Elaine has successfully partnered with local and national businesses to help provide recreational activities to children with autism.
Elaine and the board of A Place For Me envisions a learning center for children with autism in the underserved south side of Chicago which provides training, social skills programming and afterschool care. Our goal is to raise the funds to support the purchase of real estate to house this organization and offer a permanent location for those with autism to say, there's "A Place For Me".
